DOYO Live – Guest Bartending Night at Birdfish Brewing Company to Benefit The Rich Center For Autism
We are super excited to announce that DOYO Live is hosting a guest bartending night at Birdfish Brewing Company in Columbiana, Ohio on June 8, 2017, from 6-8PM to benefit The Paula and Tony Rich Center for Autism!
This is a great opportunity to come and meet speakers, sponsors, and contributors to DOYO Live and give back, all tips will go to The Rich Center! This event is open to the public, all are welcome to attend!
Come have a pint of totally awesome, locally brewed beer. Birdfish Brewing Company, located in Columbiana, Ohio. If you’ve never been to Birdfish, this is a really great reason to go.
All proceeds will go to benefit The Paula and Anthony Rich Center for Autism, a nationally recognized Center of Excellence, located at Youngstown State University. We will also auction off a homemade ceramic growler, filled with your favorite Birdfish Brewery creation!

What is The Paula and Tony Rich Center For Autism?
The Paula and Anthony Rich Center for the Study and Treatment of Autism is an externally funded unit of Youngstown State University. The primary mission of The Rich Center is to improve the lives of individuals with autism and their families through the creation, use, and enhancement of innovative educational programs specifically designed to assure the attainment of a life of dignity and to enhance the individuals’ opportunities to achieve their full potentials. The Rich Center serves as a conduit between the segments of the community concerned with autism: the university, educators and health and human service professionals.
Why The Rich Center For Autism?
First up DOYO Live’s mission, in addition to providing ongoing professional development and helping to stimulate the local economy in Youngstown, Ohio is to be purpose driven and give back to the community with time and financial contribution.
DOYO Live Founder, Dennis Schiraldi has a personal connection to The Paula and Tony Rich Center For Autism, which bears his wife, JoAnna Schiraldi’s (Rubino) sister and brother-in-law’s name, as their lives were taken early in a tragic plane accident. In addition, her nephew Christopher was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2. When there were not the resources there is today for Autism.
Through financial contributions and a lot of hard work from the Rubino, Ricchiutti, Kosar and Marchionda families started a school that would be a place to have a positive impact on families that have children with Autism and a place that teachers can get prepared to teach children with special needs. This organization has literally impacted thousands of people’s lives in the Youngstown, Ohio area in a great way!!!
Dennis commented that “11 years ago when I married JoAnna and learned the story of her family, their resiliency and what they’ve done for the community by creating this foundation I was completely blown away. Just a decade ago 1 and 350 kids were being diagnosed with Autism, now in 2017, it’s 1 out of every 45. Up to this point, I never knew anyone with Autism and through marriage, I’ve inherited, 11-years ago a wonderful young man who is my nephew, that is now 26 years old and has Autism.”
Dennis went on to say, that…”Not only that but to have a sibling perish early and for the families to stay so close-knit, turning a tragedy into something so positive is a blessing. The day I learned the story of my wife telling me about her 18-year old self-learning about the accident, I had gained an immediate tremendous amount of respect for the fact that she was able to still complete a college degree at a time in her life that she could have made ever excuse not to finish. It’s because of this, Christopher and the memory of Paula and Tony that I will do what I can to help show my support.”
So it’s that reason that DOYO Live rallies to support this great cause in Youngstown, Ohio and we invite all of you to join us on June 8, 2017, at 6-8PM in Columbiana, Ohio at Birdfish Brewery!
About The Paula and Anthony Rich Center for Autism
More than 30 qualified teachers are at the Rich Center – each instructor has a teaching license in psychology, education, or related fields. Many of our teachers have Applied Behavior Analysis certificates, special education degrees or social work experience making them exceptionally qualified to handle mild to extreme diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder. More than 65% of them have master degrees or are working towards completion of graduate studies.
There is always an ongoing open enrollment at the Rich Center. Students come from Mahoning, Trumbull, Alliance and Carroll counties. In fact, any student throughout the State of Ohio can attend the Rich Center.
The students receive hands-on care and attention starting in preschool where there is a 2:1 teacher to student ratio. As the children get older, their progress continues and the teacher to student ratio is 3:1. At the Rich Center, there are children as young as 2 ½ years of age to 16 years old. We teach preschool, life skills, academic and school-based inclusion methods. There is a full-time nurse on staff and faculty visits the center from Youngstown State University who work on various research projects related to autism spectrum disorder.
The Rich Center offers a full inclusion program at St. Charles School in Boardman, Ohio. The students are involved in daily student activity on the 7th-grade level. Four Rich Center teachers are on staff to help acclimate our hardworking students. Instructors use curriculum and classroom modification and social skill training to prepare the students for full inclusion. Students at St. Charles learn how to express their wants and needs through language-based learning skills creating functional communications proficiencies.
We are a tuition-free agency. Our commitment is to offer our services to any child enrolled at the Rich Center regardless of the ability to pay.
